11. Blog feedback

We are about to have a nice little holiday, so I thought it would be a good time to make a few points about the blogs overall.
  • Remember that you are expected to post to your blog at least once a week. In most cases, I'm not seeing this; in fact, some of you haven't posted anything at all.
  • By the end of this week (Week 5), you should have a minimum of 4 posts on your blog related to our course themes and/or texts.
  • It is your responsibility to develop a system of reminding yourself to post to your blog. 50-200 words once a week is certainly not too much to ask. Do not wait for me to remind you to do this assignment; at Freshman level, you are expected to direct your own learning to some extent.
  • This is a graded assignment, worth 20% of your final mark, and if you don't do it, you greatly increase the likelihood of failing this class. If you wait and post all the assignments at the end of the semester, you will fail the Coursework component of this class.
A big thank you to the few students who are posting regularly, you know who you are. ;-)

I look forward to reading a lot more blog posts.
Have a good Bayram,
Sonja

  1. For last few weeks, we didn't have an exact topic, i mean like reality tv or photojournalism, that's why it was harder to post something and i didn't want to post something about APA, which is the topic of few last classes.

  2. As I said today I need some topics, like Hasan Can mentioned we did not have an exact topic. It is very hard for me to write about APA format or what I think about the presentation because these could be boring for the reader. However you might say how do you know that they will be boring without trying it? You might be right. Also sometimes I try to write and the by the end of the post it becomes very personal and I feel uncomfortable to share my personal things on an English blog. As a result I should stop finding excuses and start writing :)

  3. Hasan and Elif (and everyone),

You are always free to ask me for topics - in fact, I referred you to a number of student posts to give you inspiration. And yes, we did have topics: reality TV and photojournalism, and media more generally. Media is a huge topic, and you are free to discuss any aspect of it you like. I do not want to give you a task all the time, as the main purpose of the blog is for you to explore what interests you.
