8. The government bans again!
I have just tried to access the Internet Movie Database, which we will need to use to prepare our final presentations. Guess what - it's been blocked!!
I thought it might be you, Hazal. It probably would be a good idea to change the name you sign your posts with (for your absent-minded teacher...) :)) It just gets confusing when I'm checking so many blogs...
It's ok Sonja. Seeing how many students you have, if I were you, I'd have been confused myself. I hope my new username is alright now:) I remember that you said you had no other Hazals in you class this semester, but I added 'K' just in case.
Well it's not a shock to me after hearing the news about MySpace getting banned. Well people responded pretty harshly so they had to step back, but still it's seriously annoying. The YouTube problem is still funny tho :D
Thanks for doing that, Hazal. I'm not quite sure why your new post hasn't been displayed yet. But don't worry, I've already read it and commented... :))
Onur, when you say people responded harshly, what did you mean? Did people protest this recent ban?
they banned last.fm it is unbelievable!! I am glad that we could access everywhere at school. but it is still so sad that the government try to control everything by using ridiculous ways.
Well there are some illegal ways like changing your DNS options which I use in my home computer but I don't think using in the school computer would be a good idea =)
Well I'm not sure if there was an official protest but I did follow the responses all over the internet and people weren't happy I can give you that. Ah and also for Last.fm ofc
I didn't try to access neither of those sites recently tho, but the passed several months were all about banning and people getting mad. Especially from the alternative press like from "Penguen" or "Uykusuz". Also some magazines like the one I told you about, which was reformed after Aydın Doğan bought their company.
Is that really the point, Mbo? Do you approve of your government banning web sites? Doesn't that contradict the free speech provision in the Turkish Constitution?
Really????
ReplyDeleteI just went on to that website when I saw this post. It opened without any problems.
Is it still blocked on your computer Sonja?
Yes, I can access it now...but how annoying!
ReplyDelete(btw, who are you, ENG101 Dilemma??) :)
I'm Hazal Kamisli(A3). Was my username surprising? Perhaps I should change it to my real name?

By the way, the title of my new entry is yet to show on your blog roll or is it just my computer??

ReplyDeleteWhy last.fm? I just don't get it, it seems so senseless... :((

ReplyDeleteTurkey government seems to work for us.. God bless them forever!
ReplyDeleteps. youtube issue is unacceptable. as if we cannot access to it and as if nobody knows about it..
it is not surprising when we think that even myspace had been banned.
ReplyDeletechanging DNS takes like 1 min
